Agitation for Ijebu State Will Suffer Setback If I Don’t Return to Senate in 2027: Senator Daniel

The Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Gbenga Daniel, has warned that the agitation for the creation of Ijebu State could face serious setbacks if he is not re-elected to the National Assembly in 2027.

Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State, made this declaration on Sunday during the official inauguration of the Renewed Hope International Market at Igode-Remo in Sagamu Local Government Area. He explained that significant legislative groundwork had already been initiated under his watch to actualize the creation of Ijebu State, stressing that only continuity in the Senate would ensure the success of the long-awaited project.

According to him, “In Abuja, I have been working on the creation of a new state out of the old Ijebu Province. The advantages are enormous in terms of federal allocations for development and employment opportunities. I thank my colleagues in the Senate – 75 of whom have endorsed the proposal. Out of all the provinces created in 1923, only Ijebu has yet to transition into a state. The agitation is credible and justifiable, and I call on everyone to support it.”

Daniel emphasized that the workings of the National Assembly require sustained effort and continuity to push through pending bills, hence his return in 2027 is crucial for the state creation bid.

He also used the occasion to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praising his administration’s reforms aimed at addressing Nigeria’s socioeconomic challenges. Daniel argued that Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 would consolidate development and progress across the country.

The senator disclosed that he had launched the BATOGD Movement, a grassroots mobilization group, to galvanize support for the president. “Let me state unequivocally that our support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is sacrosanct, and our reasons are very clear. Asiwaju Tinubu has provided our country with the first ever conscious leadership through a systematic process of rethinking the nation, redirecting our economy, and reengineering the protocols of our national engagements,” he stated.

Highlighting his legislative achievements, Daniel noted that he sponsored the bill that established the Southwest Development Commission, aimed at driving socioeconomic growth and infrastructural development in the region.

He further explained that the Renewed Hope International Market, which he facilitated as part of his constituency projects, marks the commencement of his midterm community assessment tour of Ogun East, alongside a multi-million-naira empowerment programme for his constituents.
