APC Clinches Councillorship By-Election in Yewa South

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has declared Mrs. Adebunmi Adekanbi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the councillorship by-election held over the weekend in Ward 1, Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.

Announcing the results, the Council’s Electoral Officer, Ademola Akinyele, confirmed that Adekanbi secured 1,873 votes to defeat her closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 351 votes.

The by-election, which was necessitated by the death of the incumbent councillor, Olayinka Adekanbi, featured candidates from 10 political parties, including APC, PDP, Labour Party (LP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Action Alliance (AA). Voting was conducted across 36 polling units in the ward.

The exercise was commended for its peaceful and transparent conduct. Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, described the election as credible and applauded Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration for ensuring a free and fair process. He also extended condolences to the Adekanbi family.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Olaolu Olabimtan, who cast his vote at GRA, Ilaro, hailed OGSIEC for what he termed a flawless election. He noted the impressive voter turnout and expressed confidence that the councillor-elect would continue the legacy of service left behind by her late husband.

In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Adekanbi thanked the people of Yewa South, the APC leadership, and Governor Abiodun for their support. She pledged to uphold her late husband’s good name and serve the ward with commitment and dedication.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Legal Affairs, Remilekun Olaopa, who represented OGSIEC Chairman Babatunde Osibodu, commended the electorate for their discipline and peaceful conduct. She described the election as a model of transparency and credibility.
