APC National Leadership Affirms Gbenga Daniel’s Membership

The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, remains a legitimate and active member of the ruling party.

The clarification was contained in a letter dated November 17 and signed by the APC National Secretary, Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru. The letter was issued in response to a formal request from MJS Law Firm, led by Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN, seeking confirmation and documentation regarding Daniel’s reported suspension.

Prof. Oke revealed that his firm had earlier written to the party’s leadership at the state, zonal, and national levels, requesting official documents related to Daniel’s suspension and giving a seven-day deadline for a response to avoid legal action.
However, the national leadership replied promptly—two days to the deadline—confirming that Daniel had not been suspended by the party.

In the letter, the National Secretary stated that the National Working Committee (NWC) had never deliberated on or investigated any allegations of anti-party activities against the senator as required by the party’s constitution. Consequently, Daniel remains a bona fide APC member.

This clarification comes despite the Ogun State chapter of the APC insisting that Daniel’s suspension was valid. The state’s Director of Publicity, Femi Nuberu, maintained that the suspension followed due process and was based on alleged anti-party activities during the August Remo Federal Constituency by-election.
He added that the window for appeal had expired, insisting that critics were free to “wail on social media.”

The state’s stance sparked protests from APC leaders in Ogun East during a briefing at Daniel’s Asoludero residence in Sagamu GRA. They alleged that the suspension was politically motivated and aimed at sidelining the senator ahead of the 2027 elections. They also questioned why no official suspension letter had been issued to Daniel aside from media statements.

In its response, the APC National Secretariat urged all parties to remain calm, noting that the NWC would independently investigate the matter before any decision is made.
A portion of the letter read:

“Please take note that the NWC is yet to deliberate on this matter as provided in Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution. Consequently, you are hereby requested to allow the National Working Committee to investigate the matter and take an informed decision. Until then, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a bona fide member of the party.”

Reacting to the development, Prof. Oke commended the APC national leadership for its fairness and transparency. He assured that Senator Daniel would remain law-abiding and continue contributing to the progress of the party in Ogun State.
