Armed Men Rob Travellers, Set Bus Ablaze in Ogun State

A group of armed men reportedly attacked and looted a luxury bus at Oke Ado Junction, Ijebu-mushin, along the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway on Saturday. The passengers, who were en route to the southeast for Easter celebrations, were left stranded and traumatized by the incident.

After robbing the passengers of their belongings, the hoodlums proceeded to set the bus on fire, adding to the chaos and fear experienced by the victims. The bus, operated by Ifesinachi Transport Limited and capable of seating 59 passengers, was completely destroyed in the blaze.

SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that the criminals were armed with cutlasses and did not use firearms during the attack. Despite the harrowing experience, there were no fatalities reported, but some passengers sustained injuries.

A video shared on social media by Chude Nnamdi captured some of the affected passengers recounting their ordeal. They described how the bandits robbed them, stripped some passengers half-naked, and then locked them inside the bus before setting it on fire. Fortunately, all passengers managed to escape, albeit losing all their belongings in the process.

The survivors expressed gratitude that no lives were lost but lamented the loss of their possessions and the injuries sustained during the attack. The incident serves as a reminder of the security challenges faced by travellers on Nigerian highways and the need for enhanced security measures to protect innocent citizens.
