Assassination Allegation: Sanwo-Olu’s Chief of Staff Withdraws Threat of Litigation Against Gani Adams
Mr. Tayo Ayinde, the Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, has decided to drop the threat of litigation against Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, regarding allegations of plotting an assassination. This decision was communicated through Ayinde’s lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), in a letter dated Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
The development follows a series of exchanges between the parties involved. Previously, both Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, and Ayinde had threatened legal action against Adams for allegedly accusing them of planning an assassination. In response to their pre-action letters, Adams’ lawyers, OKC Attorneys, denied the allegations and refuted any involvement in the dissemination of the alleged voice note containing the accusations.
In his letter, Olumide-Fusika stated that Ayinde had considered Adams’ response and decided to let the matter rest. He acknowledged that Adams denied responsibility for the viral voice note containing the allegations and blamed someone else for its circulation. This shift in approach signifies a willingness to de-escalate tensions and seek a peaceful resolution.
In a statement on Tuesday, Adams described the voice note as distorted and described the threats of lawsuits by Igboho and Ayinde as a grand conspiracy to discredit him. He reaffirmed his commitment to protecting his reputation and the office he represents, emphasizing the need for truth and fairness in addressing such allegations.
Responding to Ayinde’s decision, Adams’ lawyer, Oluwole Kehinde, expressed appreciation for the Chief of Staff’s withdrawal of the claim and thanked him for his understanding. This gesture of goodwill sets a positive tone for future interactions and underscores the importance of dialogue in resolving disputes.
The withdrawal of the threat of litigation signals a step towards resolving the dispute between Ayinde and Adams, highlighting the importance of dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts. It also underscores the need for responsible communication and careful consideration of the impact of statements made in the public domain.
