Breaking News: Olakulehin Nominated as 43rd Olubadan
In a recent development, the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has been nominated as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. The nomination took place on Friday, April 12, during the Olubadan-in-council meeting held at the Olubadan Palace, Oja’ba, Ibadan. The nomination was made by the Osi Balogun, Oba Lateef Adebimpe, and was attended by prominent figures in the council, including High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, Oba Eddy Oyewole, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, Oba Adebayo Akande, Oba Lateef Adebimpe, Oba Kola Adegbola, Oba Dada Isioye, and Oba Abiodun Azeez.
The vacancy for the Olubadan of Ibadanland arose following the passing of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, who died at the age of 81 at the University College Hospital (UCH).
After the meeting, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja addressed the media, stating that the appointment of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland has been concluded pending the consent of the state governor. He mentioned that a letter would be prepared by the local government and sent to the governor for his approval. Once the governor gives his consent, a date for the coronation will be set.
It is worth noting that there have been differing opinions regarding the health status of Olakulehin, with the Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, expressing concerns about his fitness to ascend to the throne. However, Ladoja dismissed these concerns, stating that Olakulehin is an elderly person and should not be expected to exhibit the vigor of youth.
