Commuters Face Increasing Threat of ‘One-Chance’ Robberies on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Motorists and passengers traveling along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have expressed concern over the rising incidents of ‘one-chance’ robberies in the Mowe/Ibafo-Berger area. These criminals pose a serious threat to the safety of travelers, prompting many to alter their travel plans to avoid traveling after dark.

Sarah Oladele, a teacher, highlighted her fear of traveling after 7 pm, emphasizing the need for caution on the road. Similarly, Rebecca, a hawker, mentioned that she continues to use the road out of necessity, despite the risks posed by these criminals.

Bus driver Kamoru Babajide shared his strategy of limiting the number of male passengers in his minibus to reduce the risk of ‘one-chance’ robberies. Another victim, A.Y., recounted his terrifying experience of being robbed at gunpoint while traveling on a minibus.

In response to these concerns, the Ogun State Police Command has instructed its Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the area to increase patrols to curb these criminal activities. The police have reassured the public that complaints related to ‘one-chance’ robberies will be promptly investigated, and the perpetrators brought to justice.

The increase in ‘one-chance’ robberies along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway highlights the need for enhanced security measures to protect commuters and ensure the safety of travelers on this busy route.
