
Cult Leader Fatally Attacked in Ogun State, Suspected Murderer Apprehended by Police
In the early hours of Thursday, a tragic incident unfolded in the Ijeja area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ogun State, where a suspected leader of the Eiye confraternity, identified as Oloba, met his demise. According to reports gathered by Peoples-talk, Oloba was ambushed by members of a rival cult group as he entered his residence, and he was fatally shot by the assailants.
Eyewitnesses, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to fear of reprisals, shared chilling details of the attack. The assailants, suspected to be from a rival cult group, approached the scene around 11 pm on Thursday, entering the street from an adjoining one. Oloba was shot while disembarking from his vehicle, and the gunmen swiftly fled the scene on a motorcycle.
“We were seated somewhere in the street when we heard a gunshot from a close distance, and before we could observe what was happening, the gunmen had zoomed off on a bike,” recounted one eyewitness. Upon realizing the severity of the situation, it became apparent that Oloba had succumbed to the gunshot wound, primarily to his chest. The source suggested that the assailants could be affiliated with the Alora cult group.
Efforts by concerned residents to rush Oloba to the hospital proved futile, as he reportedly lost his life before reaching medical assistance. The deceased was acknowledged as a known member of the Eiye Confraternity, intensifying concerns about the ongoing cult-related violence in the region.
When contacted for a reaction, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed the incident, terming it a case of cult killing. He assured that an investigation was underway but requested more time before providing additional details.
In a separate development, the Ogun State Police Command reported another tragic incident involving the arrest of one Samuel Odubola. He is accused of fatally stabbing his neighbor, Seun Ogunniyi, in the Ogijo area of the state. The incident, which occurred around 6:30 pm on Thursday, resulted from an argument between the two individuals. Despite being rushed to the General Hospital in Ikorodu for medical treatment, Ogunniyi succumbed to the deep chest wound inflicted by Odubola.
Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect initially managed to escape but was later apprehended by law enforcement. Preliminary investigations have commenced, shedding light on the complexities of interpersonal conflicts leading to tragic outcomes in the region.
