FCCPC Seals Sahad Store in Abuja for Alleged Hoarding and Price Hiking
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has taken decisive action against Sahad Store, a prominent supermarket in the Garki area of Abuja. The store stands accused of engaging in practices detrimental to consumer interests, including hoarding essential goods and charging prices higher than those displayed on shelves.
This enforcement action, led by FCCPC’s Acting Executive Vice Chairman, Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi, comes at a critical time when President Bola Tinubu has unveiled plans to address factors contributing to the ongoing food crisis in the country. Preliminary investigations by the FCCPC support claims of malpractice by the management of Sahad Store, prompting the decision to seal the premises pending further investigation.
“The FCCPC is committed to safeguarding the rights of consumers and ensuring fair competition in the marketplace,” stated Adamu Ahmed Abdullahi. “We will not hesitate to take necessary actions against any entity found violating consumer protection laws.”
The sealing of Sahad Store underscores the FCCPC’s commitment to enforcing consumer protection regulations and ensuring that businesses operate in accordance with the law. The Commission advises consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of price gouging or unfair business practices.
