Federal Government Distributes 42,000 Metric Tonnes of Grains for Free, While Ogun State Launches N5 Billion Interventions
The Federal Government has announced plans to distribute 42,000 metric tonnes of grains to needy Nigerians at no cost, following approval by President Bola Tinubu. This distribution is part of efforts to alleviate the economic hardships faced by many Nigerians, especially in light of rising inflation and currency devaluation. In a similar vein, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has unveiled over N5 billion in intervention plans aimed at supporting residents amidst the challenging economic conditions.
Governor Abiodun emphasized that these interventions were a direct response to the hardships faced by Nigerians, highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of its citizens. The intervention plans in Ogun State will encompass various sectors, including education, health, and welfare, with specific initiatives such as educational grants for students, health insurance for beneficiaries, and the distribution of food items to households.
President Tinubu’s directive to release the 42,000MT of grains from the national strategic reserves is part of ongoing efforts to address the rising cost of food in Nigeria. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, revealed that the distribution process would involve the Department of State Services and the National Emergency Management Agency to ensure that the commodities reach the intended beneficiaries nationwide. Additionally, the government aims to support 500,000 farmers to cultivate and produce one million metric tonnes of rice, which will significantly increase Nigeria’s rice production.
Governor Abiodun’s intervention plans in Ogun State also include the payment of N500 million monthly to settle the backlog of deductions owed to workers. These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to alleviating the impact of economic challenges on its citizens and promoting their welfare. As the government continues to implement these interventions, it calls for patience, understanding, and cooperation from all stakeholders to navigate these challenging times together.
