The Wenchi West District of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Ghana’s Bono Region celebrated 20 girls, aged 13 to 16, for maintaining their virginity.
During a thanksgiving service marking the church’s first Sabbath of the year, the girls were awarded monetary gifts as recognition for their moral discipline and dedication. Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, District Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, commended the girls for their commitment, encouraging them to preserve their purity until marriage. She urged them to choose friends wisely in 2025, saying, “God created you uniquely beautiful; do not let anyone deceive you into compromising your values before marriage.”
Mrs. Poku also highlighted the need for a societal return to traditional customs like Bragoro and Dipo puberty rites, which historically promoted chastity and curbed teenage pregnancies while fostering the holistic growth of young girls.
Pastor Andrews Dua Bour Kyere, Associate Pastor of the district, applauded the girls for setting a positive example and encouraged them to remain focused on their education and personal development.
The honoured girls expressed gratitude for the church’s support, saying the recognition motivates them to uphold the values instilled in them.
