Governor Makinde Addresses Alleged Crisis in Olubadan-in-Council

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm regarding the selection of the next Olubadan of Ibadan. The crisis within the Olubadan-in-Council intensified as the Otun Olubadan, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, criticized the comments made by Otun Balogun, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, regarding the fitness of the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, for the Olubadan stool.

Ladoja, the most senior high Chief, emphasized that only a doctor could provide acceptable reports on the health status of the Olubadan-designate. This response follows Oba Ajibola’s remarks suggesting that there was no urgency in selecting a new Olubadan due to Oba Olakulehin’s purported age-related ailments.

In response to Oba Ajibola’s threat of boycotting meetings convened by the Olubadan-in-Council, Ladoja warned that the council could substitute him. He asserted, “Ajibola can be substituted to nominate Olubadan if he doesn’t come to the meeting.”

Governor Makinde, on his part, clarified that he had not received any official nomination for the stool from the Olubadan-in-Council. He urged those fanning the flames of discord to desist, emphasizing the importance of unity in the state. He emphasized the need for discipline and urged against overheating the polity, promising to make a decision
