Govt Begins Payment of ₦44,000 Minimum Wage Arrears to Ex-Corps Members

The Federal Government has officially commenced the payment of ₦44,000 minimum wage arrears to former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), fulfilling a long-standing promise related to the recent adjustment of corps members’ monthly stipends.

This payment applies to corps members who had already completed their service before the new monthly allowance increase from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 took effect earlier this year. The move is part of the government’s efforts to uphold its financial commitments and ensure no ex-corps member is left out of the revised wage implementation.

Several former corps members have gone online to celebrate, confirming they have received the arrears. On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), beneficiaries expressed their appreciation. One user, @Kingpin_black1, tweeted: “Thank you, NYSC. Thank you, President Tinubu. Nigeria will be great again.” Another, @pharmacist_shezzy, wrote: “44k don land. NYSC no carry last. God bless Nigeria.” Similarly, @ifeoluwa_X said: “Just got my alert. I almost deleted my NYSC account. Thank you, FG.”

The disbursement is widely seen as a positive signal of accountability from the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, and has sparked optimism online, with many viewing the gesture as a sign of renewed commitment to youth welfare and national service.
