A Physics teacher, Mr. Muktar Salihu, at Ebira Muslim Community College, Okengwe (EMCCO), Okene LGA, Kogi State, was reportedly attacked and beaten into a coma by a group of SS2 students suspected to be part of a cult-like group.
The students allegedly orchestrated the assault to assert control over the school’s administration. The group’s leader, identified as Abdulbatin, is said to be the son of a local traditional ruler, the Opokitipo of Esusu Clan in Okengwe District.
Call for Urgent Intervention
Concerned teachers have called on the State Ministry of Education, State Education Board, and security agencies to intervene, ensure justice, and restore discipline in schools.
Police Action
The District Police Officer (DPO) in the area has ordered the traditional ruler to present his son to law enforcement by tomorrow for further investigation. Meanwhile, the injured teacher is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
