KOGI STATE POLICE COMMAND ADMITS MISTAKEN IDENTITY IN THE K!LLING OF BARRISTER ELIAS UGWU

The Kogi State Police Command has issued a statement regarding the unfortunate k!lling of Barrister Elias Ugwu in Alade village, Dekina Local Government Area of the state. The incident occurred last week Friday when the victim, a Nsukka-based lawyer, went to pay ransom for his kidnapped cousin.

According to the statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Williams Anya, the police team mistook Barrister Elias Ugwu for a member of an armed robbery gang that had robbed some banks a day earlier. In a tragic case of mistaken identity, the police k!lled the lawyer, admitting that it was an error on their part.

The Kogi State Police Command expressed deep regret over the incident and extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of Barrister Elias Ugwu. The command assured the public that thorough investigations would be conducted to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the k!lling and to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The command also reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the residents of Kogi State, urging the public to cooperate with the police in their efforts to maintain law and order.
