Lagos Government Shuts Down Cubana Chief Priest’s Restaurant Over Environmental Violations
The Lagos State Government has sealed DONALD Restaurant, a nightlife hotspot owned by renowned socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, over environmental infractions.
The action was taken by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) after two staff members of the restaurant were caught illegally dumping refuse on the roadside in Lekki Phase 1.
According to a statement by LAWMA’s Managing Director/CEO, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the incident was reported by the Chairman of the Lekki Estate Residents Association (LERA) in the early hours of Saturday, May 18, 2025. A white Ford van with Abuja registration number GWA 136E was observed discharging waste indiscriminately along Durosimi-Etti Street.
The offending vehicle was traced to DONALD Restaurant, located on Road 14 within the Lekki Estate. The suspects were promptly arrested by LERA’s Chief Security Officer and taken into custody. In a further twist, reports indicated the individuals attempted to bribe the estate’s security personnel with ₦100,000, an offer that was rejected.
LAWMA’s Monitoring and Compliance Team arrived at the scene and subsequently sealed the restaurant for violating the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017. Gbadegesin emphasized that the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Reiterating the agency’s stance on environmental compliance, Gbadegesin said, “LAWMA remains resolute in its commitment to enforcing environmental regulations across Lagos and urges all residents and businesses to adhere strictly to proper waste management practices. A clean and livable city is everyone’s responsibility.”
The closure serves as a warning to other businesses to comply with Lagos State’s environmental laws or face similar sanctions.
