Lagos Man Shot Dead After Nightclub Dispute
Panic gripped the Iyana Isashi community in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State on Friday after a man, identified simply as Alex, was shot by suspected gunmen.
The incident, which occurred around 8 p.m., left residents in shock. Witnesses said Alex, who lived at Cele Niza in Iyana Isashi, had just returned from work and stepped out to meet a friend when two men on a motorcycle accosted him. One of the assailants reportedly pulled out a gun and shot him at close range.
“It was the sound of the gunshot that attracted people. We rushed to the scene and saw him lying in a pool of blood while the gunmen fled on their bike,” a resident told our correspondent.
Alex, popularly known as Fleximore, was rushed to the hospital, where doctors battled to save his life. However, after days in a coma, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.
Community sources revealed that the shooting may have been linked to a confrontation Alex had at a nightclub a day earlier. According to a resident, Quadri, the deceased had engaged in a heated argument with some men at the club, which later escalated into a fight.
“Alex is an easy-going person, not known for trouble. But the altercation at the club was unusual for him. People believe the attack might have been connected to what happened that night,” Quadri explained, adding that burial arrangements were already underway.
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said she was not yet aware of the case but promised to confirm details with the Divisional Police Officer in the area.
Residents also linked the killing to the spate of cult-related violence that has plagued Iba and surrounding communities along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway in recent months. In August, PUNCH Metro reported that a passenger in a commercial bus was shot dead by unidentified assailants on the same expressway, sparking renewed calls for stronger police intervention in the area.
