
Lagos Police Investigate Fatal Shooting and Abduction by Gunmen
The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a tragic incident on Wednesday in the Ikorodu area, where gunmen killed two individuals identified as Suru Arije, 59, and Ilufoye Azeez, 30. Additionally, a woman, yet to be identified, was abducted during the attack, which occurred around 11 a.m. in the Alagemo community of Igbelaara, off Ijede road in Ikorodu.
According to police sources, four vigilantes sustained injuries during the attack.
A resident, speaking anonymously, revealed that news of the incident spread through a community WhatsApp group, raising concerns about safety in the area. The attack took place in Alagemo, a part of Igbelaara, Ijede, in Ikorodu.
In a video capturing the aftermath, a male voice can be heard alerting others to the ongoing kidnapping in Igbe-Alagemo, implicating the gunmen. The voice also indicated that the abducted victim was a female visitor in the area, with the male adult questioning a motorcycle rider about her identity and purpose in the community.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the tragic events unfolded around 11 a.m., resulting in two fatalities, four injuries, and one woman kidnapped. Hundeyin assured that the injured were receiving treatment at a local clinic and emphasized that the police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
This incident adds to the recent surge in kidnappings across the country. In a separate event, troops of the Nigerian Army successfully rescued 18 female kidnap victims in Katsina State. Brig.-Gen. Oluremi Fadairo, Brigade Commander of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, disclosed that the operation targeted the bandits’ enclaves at Yan-Tumaki and Dan-Ali forests.
