Lucky Aiyedatiwa Emerges Winner of Ondo APC Primary
Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Governor of Ondo State, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming November 16 governorship election. Aiyedatiwa secured the nomination with a decisive victory, garnering 48,569 votes in the primaries. His closest rival, Mayowa Akinfolarin, trailed behind with 15,343 votes, while Chief Olusola Oke came in third with 14,865 votes. The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee and Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo. Governor Ododo noted the competitive nature of the primaries, highlighting the intense contest that characterized the electoral process.
The primaries, which took place across the 18 council areas of Ondo State, saw enthusiastic participation from party members and supporters. With his nomination secured, Aiyedatiwa and the APC now turn their attention to consolidating support and rallying behind their candidate as they prepare to face off against opponents in the November election.
However, there were reports of violence in some areas, with the returning officer in Ifedore, Oliver Okpala, stating that no voting took place in all the wards due to the unrest.
Speaking before the party’s electoral officers announced the results from the 18 council areas, Governor Usman Ododo emphasized the need for unity within the party, regardless of the outcome of the primaries. He urged party members to set aside their differences and support the chosen candidate, noting that their victory lies in their solidarity as party members.
The total number of voters in the primaries was 117,922, with 95,178 accredited voters. The total votes cast were 95,178, with no invalid votes reported.
