In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the Coordinating Minister of Health & Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, discussed the potential return of successful Nigerian doctors, nurses, and health workers from overseas if the necessary infrastructure is provided in Nigeria.
Pate acknowledged that while some health workers have chosen to remain in Nigeria despite the lure of better pay and welfare packages abroad, there is a growing interest among successful professionals overseas to return home if the conditions are right.
He emphasized the dedication of many health professionals who have opted to stay in Nigeria, as well as those who travel abroad for training with the intention of returning home to contribute their skills to the Nigerian healthcare system. Pate expressed appreciation for all health workers, both at home and abroad, who are committed to serving the country.
The Minister highlighted the need for improved infrastructure and working conditions in Nigeria’s healthcare sector to attract and retain skilled health workers. He noted that efforts are being made to address these challenges and create a conducive environment for health professionals to thrive.
Pate also underscored the importance of training and capacity building, stating that investing in the skills of healthcare workers is crucial for improving healthcare delivery in Nigeria. He called for collaboration between the government, private sector, and international partners to enhance the quality of healthcare services in the country.
In conclusion, the Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector and ensuring that Nigerian health workers have the support they need to deliver quality healthcare to the people.
