NDLEA Advises Travelers to Avoid Accepting Unidentified Luggage

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has cautioned travelers against accepting luggage from individuals without knowing its contents. Femi Babafemi, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, issued the warning, emphasizing the potential risks involved.

Babafemi highlighted an incident involving two students, one of whom was pursuing a PhD, who faced difficulties when bottles of codeine syrup were found in luggage they were transporting for a female friend studying abroad. He noted that the students narrowly avoided legal repercussions due to the agency’s intervention, which led to the owner of the luggage being sent back home on the next available flight.

The NDLEA official underscored the importance of being cautious and advised against accepting luggage from anyone without prior knowledge of its contents. He also shared a video showing how bags of opioids were concealed among spare parts destined for Mubi in Adamawa, emphasizing the need for vigilance when handling luggage.
