Ogun ADC Awaits Obasanjo’s Daughter Amid 2027 Political Speculations

The Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said it is awaiting contact from Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, the first daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, following growing speculation about her possible political comeback ahead of the 2027 elections.

A source who spoke with The Punch disclosed that Obasanjo-Bello, who represented Ogun Central Senatorial District between 2007 and 2011, might consider the ADC as her preferred political platform.

Recently, billboards featuring Obasanjo-Bello — a veterinarian and epidemiologist currently residing in the United States — surfaced in parts of Abeokuta, including Abiola Way near her father’s Presidential Library and Brewery Junction. The billboards, bearing the inscription “In Ogun State, we know ourselves. Senator (Prof) Iyabo Obasanjo. Omo wa ni, eniyan wa ni, ara wa ni,” have fueled speculation about her possible return to active politics.

According to the source, “Although the former senator has not publicly declared her next political step, there is strong speculation that she may contest for the Ogun Central Senatorial seat under the ADC. You will recall that former President Obasanjo gave tactical support to the ADC in 2019, so many believe she might follow the same path.”

Confirming the speculation, the Ogun ADC Chairman, Otunba Femi Soluade, noted that while the party had not yet been contacted by Obasanjo-Bello, they were open to discussions.

He said, “Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello is yet to reach out to us. Nevertheless, we are waiting for her to talk to us. There are various opinions about the position she might be aiming for in 2027, but for now, we are observing developments. I intend to discuss the matter with our executive team soon and will provide updates when new information emerges.”
