The Ogun State Government has reassured residents that ongoing road reconstruction projects across the state will be completed soon, as part of efforts to enhance transportation and boost economic activities.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, gave the assurance during an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction at Itori, along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway in Ewekoro Local Government Area.
Akinsanya explained that several of the roads currently under reconstruction were in deplorable condition before the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun assumed office in 2019. He noted that the government has since made significant progress in rehabilitating and upgrading them, emphasizing that durable road construction requires proper planning and time to ensure quality results.
Recalling the state of roads in Sango-Ota, Akinsanya described them as previously “almost impassable, like a swimming pool.” He explained that the adoption of a concrete pavement design along the Ewekoro axis was a deliberate strategy to make the roads more durable and minimize long-term maintenance costs.
Addressing a viral video showing bad portions of the road, the commissioner clarified that the footage did not represent the current situation on site. He appealed to residents and motorists for continued patience, especially during the rainy season, while assuring them that the projects would soon be completed.
The Project Manager of Craneburg Construction Limited, Pierre Andary, whose company is handling the reconstruction of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, revealed that asphalt laying had commenced and that the project was already over 50 percent completed, with delivery expected by the end of 2026.
Similarly, Jason Zhang, Project Manager of CCECC Nigeria Limited, contractors for the Magboro–Makogi Road, confirmed steady progress on the project. He commended both motorists and the state government for their cooperation, which he said had been vital in keeping the project on schedule.
