Ogun NNPP Ex-Governorship Candidate, Ajadi, Joins PDP

Politician and businessman, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing his defection as a “strategic and patriotic decision aimed at restoring Nigeria’s unity and hope.”

Ajadi made the announcement on Monday during a press conference where he presented copies of his resignation letter to journalists, according to reports by Tribune.

In the letter addressed to the NNPP Ward Chairman, the Obafemi Owode Local Government Chairman, the Ogun State NNPP Chairman, the Southwest Zonal Chairman, and the National Chairman, Ajadi stated that his decision followed deep reflection on the country’s political direction and the urgent need to align with a stronger platform capable of driving meaningful transformation.

“My decision to join the Peoples Democratic Party is both strategic and patriotic. I hold great respect for the NNPP and its ideals, but at this stage in Nigeria’s history, the PDP presents a broader and more effective platform for national reconciliation, youth empowerment, and true federalism,” he said.

Ajadi, who was the NNPP governorship candidate in Ogun State during the 2023 elections after stepping down as a presidential aspirant in support of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, clarified that his exit from the NNPP was not borne out of resentment but conviction.

“There is no bad blood between me and my former party. I remain grateful for the opportunity to have served under its banner. However, as Nigeria continues to face economic hardship, unemployment, and leadership challenges, it is time for like-minded patriots to unite and rebuild public trust in governance,” he explained.

He emphasized the need for leaders who listen to the people and act with integrity, expressing confidence that his move to the PDP would help strengthen the party’s grassroots influence and restore public confidence.

“This is not just about party politics; it’s about rekindling Nigerians’ faith in democracy and ensuring that citizens truly enjoy the dividends of good governance,” Ajadi added, pledging to collaborate with PDP leaders across all levels to promote transparency, peace, and inclusive governance.
