Ogun Police Arrest Three for Attempted Murder
The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended three suspects—Monsuru Musa, Adija Monsuru, and Shehu Dikko—for an alleged attempted murder in the Afonta area of Abeokuta, the state capital. The incident, which occurred last Monday at about 6:10 pm, involved a commercial motorcycle rider, identified as Tijanni, who sustained severe injuries to the crown of his head, neck, and lower lip.
According to a police source, the altercation began when Monsuru hired Tijanni to take her to the Soyeye area from Lafenwa in Abeokuta. Upon reaching an isolated area before the Soyeye community, Monsuru requested a stop to call a friend who would be traveling the same route. Shortly after the call, two other suspects, Musa and Dikko, arrived and joined Monsuru on the motorcycle.
As the suspects attempted to leave the scene, Musa and Dikko allegedly tried to strangle Tijanni with a rope around his neck, while Monsuru reportedly struck him on the head with a large piece of wooden plank. Tijanni’s screams for help attracted other motorcyclists, residents, and a team of police officers, who apprehended the suspects before they could escape.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, stated that the suspects were part of a notorious syndicate specializing in motorcycle theft. She added that the victim had been taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
This arrest comes in the wake of increased efforts by security agencies in the state to curb crime and ensure the safety of residents.
