Ogun Police Command Strengthens Security at Sagamu Interchange

The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security operations at the four intersections of the Sagamu Interchange to safeguard residents and commuters.

According to a statement signed by CSP Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer at the command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Ogun State, the move follows growing security concerns in the area, including social media reports about an alleged incident on March 31, 2025. While no formal complaint was lodged at any police station regarding the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, has taken proactive steps to reinforce security at the interchange.

Deployment of Tactical Teams and Surveillance Operations

To strengthen security in the area, specialized police units, including the Quick Intervention Squad, OP Mesa, and Mobile Police Squadrons 71 and 16, have been deployed to strategic locations such as:

Under the bridge

At the roundabouts

Along inward and outward routes of the four intersections

As part of security measures, the Commissioner of Police personally conducted a two-hour drone surveillance exercise, during which several illegal shanties, unauthorized revenue collection points, and illicit activities by touts were discovered.

Immediate Action Against Illegal Activities

Following these findings, CP Ogunlowo has ordered the immediate disbandment of all illegal activitiesin the area. This includes:

Removal of unauthorized structures starting April 3, 2025

A complete ban on commercial activities under the bridge

Additionally, the Commissioner has engaged transport union leaders to ensure commercial traffic is redirected to well-lit and secure locations to enhance safety for commuters.

Police Advise Commuters on Safety Precautions

While Ogun State remains relatively peaceful, the police command urges residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to prevent criminal activities.

As a precautionary measure, commuters are advised to:

Plan their travels within daylight hours or early evenings to minimize security risks

Be cautious and avoid isolated areas

Report suspicious activities to the nearest security personnel

With the heightened security presence and support from sister security agencies in collaboration with the Ogun State Government, the police command reassures the public that all necessary actions will be taken to maintain peace and order in the state.
