OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT DEMOLISHES SHANTIES AND MAKESHIFT STRUCTURES AT AKUTE UNDER-BRIDGE
Ogun State, Nigeria – February 19, 2024 – The Ogun State Government has carried out a demolition exercise, clearing all shanties and makeshift structures at the Akute Under Bridge and on the wall of the fence of Zumuratul Primary School in Akute. The exercise was conducted by the state Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, led by Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Alhaji Farook Akintunde.
The demolition was prompted by a petition from the Anigilage Community Association and the management of Zumuratul Primary School, highlighting the illegal allocation of spaces at the Akute Underbridge and on the walls of the school by the traditional ruler of the area for commercial gains.
Alhaji Farook Akintunde warned traditional rulers against using their positions to illegally allocate setbacks and open spaces in their domain to traders for commercial gains. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and maintaining order in the state.
The demolition exercise is part of the state government’s efforts to uphold environmental standards and ensure the safety and well-being of residents. The government has called on residents to support its efforts by adhering to environmental laws and regulations.
