In a bid to alleviate the economic challenges faced by students and their parents, the Ogun State government has initiated the Educational Cash Award for Student Help (OgunEduCASH) program. This intervention program aims to support learners in public primary and secondary schools, as well as public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Announced by Governor Dapo Abiodun in February, the OgunEduCASH program will provide a N50,000 cash award to each of the 60,000 students of Ogun State origin in tertiary institutions. Additionally, the government plans to assist 10,000 indigent students in public primary and secondary schools across the three senatorial districts with N10,000 each.
Speaking on the program, Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, highlighted that both public and private tertiary institution students are eligible for the cash award. The initiative has been well-received by students, with many expressing gratitude for the support received.
Beneficiaries from institutions such as Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic emphasized the impact of the cash award on their educational pursuits. They praised Governor Abiodun for his compassion and student-centric approach, noting that the funds would significantly contribute to their academic progress and alleviate financial burdens.
Students from the Federal College of Education, Osiele, also commended Governor Abiodun, describing him as a compassionate and student-loving father. They expressed appreciation for the financial support, which will aid them in completing projects and paying tuition fees.
The Ogun State government remains committed to supporting its students amid economic challenges, ensuring that education remains accessible and impactful for all.
