The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, has announced that legal action will be taken against Akanni Azeez Olawale, an SS3 student of Agbara Grammar School, and his parents for allegedly assaulting a teacher and the school principal. The incident reportedly occurred after the principal seized Olawale’s uniform due to unruly behavior.
According to reports, the altercation began on February 14 when the principal seized Olawale’s uniform, stating that he had no right to claim student status after registering for exams at another school. In response, Olawale, accompanied by his parents, allegedly returned to the school and attacked the principal. During the altercation, Olawale reportedly slapped a teacher and tore his clothes.
Prof Arigbabu condemned the incident and stated that both the student and his parents would face prosecution for their actions. He emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated in Ogun State schools. The state government intends to pursue legal action as a deterrent to others who might consider similar misconduct in the future.
Comrade Seun Agbesanwa, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) in Ogun State, also condemned the incident and called for appropriate sanctions against those involved.
