Ogun West Shines Brighter Under Senator Adeola’s Leadership
The ongoing reconstruction of the long-neglected Ilara-Ilashe Road in Ogun West Senatorial District has brought renewed hope to the communities it connects. Spanning 103 kilometres and linking 26 towns and villages, the road is undergoing rapid rehabilitation, marking a major milestone facilitated by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi. The project, aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, underscores the Senator’s commitment to infrastructure and grassroots development in Ogun West.
Senator Adeola had previously pledged to ensure the road’s inclusion among federal projects, and his efforts have now yielded results. The road cuts across four local government areas—Imeko-Afon, Yewa North, Yewa South, and Ipokia—and serves key communities such as Ilara, Ata, Ijoun, Oja Odan, Ifonyintedo, and Ilashe, among others. For these communities, the project is not only a long-awaited infrastructural upgrade but also a symbol of responsive and transformative leadership.
While the idea for this road dates back to the tenure of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun—who only managed to construct five kilometres before abandoning the rest—Senator Adeola has moved beyond talk to implementation. This project adds to a growing list of interventions facilitated by the Senator, including the 17-kilometre road connecting Kekebi, Imeko General Hospital, and several rural towns previously overlooked by past administrations.
Senator Adeola’s impact is visible not just in roads but across critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. His efforts have led to the construction of over 150 new classrooms across 25 locations, establishment of ICT centres to boost computer literacy, and provision of farm inputs and cash grants to over 50,000 farmers. Additionally, over 40,000 individuals have benefited from vocational training and entrepreneurship programmes aimed at reducing poverty and fostering self-reliance.
The Senator’s commitment to good representation is evidenced by his strong track record in legislative productivity, constituent engagement, and strategic budget allocation. As Chairman of the Senate Appropriation Committee, Adeola has brought his experience as a professional accountant to bear, ensuring transparency and accountability in public spending. His approach to governance—marked by frequent town hall meetings and grassroots consultations—has deepened his connection with the people and earned him widespread admiration.
Other road projects facilitated by Adeola include the Ilashe-Okere Township Road in Ipokia LGA, Sabo-Babalawo Road in Imeko-Afon, Idogo-Ipaja Road in Yewa South, Abeokuta-Iboro-Ilaro Road, and the inner road construction in Kemta-Idi Aba Estate, Abeokuta South. These projects have transformed Ogun West’s transport network, enabling smoother movement of goods and services, bolstering agriculture, trade, and education, and strengthening community ties.
Prominent voices from across the state have commended the Senator’s efforts. Segun Sowunmi, a PDP chieftain from Ogun Central, dismissed controversies surrounding Adeola’s origin, emphasizing that his contributions to Ogun State development are what truly matter. “If Yewa, his father’s house refuses him, we will welcome him in Egbaland, his mother’s place,” he stated, asserting that the debates over ancestry are now “idle, malicious and condemnable.”
Senator Adeola has expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the Federal Government for supporting Ogun West’s infrastructure agenda. He particularly thanked the president for approving the rehabilitation of the Abeokuta-Iboro-Ilaro Road, noting its significance in boosting economic activities and enhancing regional connectivity.
The general consensus among stakeholders is that Ogun West has experienced unprecedented development under Senator Adeola’s representation. Even critics acknowledge that the district has never had it this good in recent times. Through focused leadership and tangible action, Senator Adeola has indeed made Ogun West shine brighter.
