Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Oke Ogun zone of Oyo State have thrown their full support behind Governor Seyi Makinde, commending his administration as one of the most impactful in the political history of the state.
This endorsement came after a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting held at the LA Demonstration School I & II Field, Iseyin, where party executives and chieftains from the ten local government areas of Oke Ogun gathered to assess the state of the party and plan its political direction.
The meeting came on the heels of the recent resignation of Senator Hosea Agboola, a former PDP stalwart. However, rather than causing division, the development appeared to strengthen party unity, as several members described Agboola’s exit as “a blessing in disguise” that would help the party refocus and consolidate its grassroots support.
Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal; former House of Representatives member and Ayedero of Yorubaland, Shina Peller; and PDP Board of Trustees member, Hamid Gbadamosi, among other notable figures.
Each of the ten local government chairmen addressed the gathering, reaffirming that the PDP in Oke Ogun remains united and aligned with Governor Makinde’s vision of inclusive governance and sustainable development.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Shina Peller emphasised the importance of regular stakeholder engagement, noting that it helps evaluate the party’s internal strength and maintain its connection to the grassroots. He stated, “The era where you tell people what to do has come to an end. Leaders must now embrace people-centred leadership and modern political systems that reflect the aspirations of the people.”
Peller reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP and his unwavering support for Governor Makinde, describing him as a visionary leader whose developmental strides have repositioned Oyo State for growth. “Governor Makinde’s leadership has brought stability, progress, and a renewed sense of purpose to our state,” he added.
Party leaders at the meeting applauded the governor for his infrastructural projects, agricultural initiatives, and social welfare reforms, especially across the Oke Ogun region. They cited the expansion of key roads, agricultural support programmes, and socio-economic improvements as proof of Makinde’s balanced development agenda.
At the close of the meeting, Adejumobi Samuel Ademola presented a six-point communiqué reaffirming the zone’s unwavering support for the governor and calling for greater unity among party members. He stressed the need to build a resilient political structure capable of withstanding both internal and external challenges ahead of future elections.
The stakeholders further resolved to intensify membership drives across the ten local governments—especially among youths and professionals—to inject fresh ideas and energy into the party. They also pledged continued alignment with Governor Makinde’s inclusive governance style, ensuring that the PDP remains the dominant political force in Oyo State.
