Ondo Amotekun Arrests 32 Kidnap Suspects as State Sets Up Joint Security Task Force

In response to recent security threats, the Ondo State Government has established a joint security task force to address the rising cases of kidnapping and attacks in the state. The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, has arrested 32 suspected kidnappers hiding in forests across various local government areas.

This development follows a series of violent attacks by suspected bandits, who recently invaded the Aba Oyinbo community in Akure North Local Government Area, killing five farmers. The incident led to protests by local farmers in Akure, the state capital. Additionally, suspected herdsmen attacked four communities—Ademekun, Aba Sunday, Aba Pastor, and Aba Alajido—killing 14 people.

Addressing journalists in Akure on Sunday, the Commander of Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, revealed that the task force set up by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa includes all security agencies working together to restore peace. He assured residents that normalcy had returned to affected areas and that farmers could resume their activities without fear.

“The government has established a joint task force to stabilize the remote areas of Akure North where these attacks have been occurring. Additionally, efforts are being made to open up access roads to ensure a quicker response in emergencies,” Adeleye stated.

He further explained that security operations had successfully restored order to communities such as Ago Oyinbo, Ago Dada, Ago Ademekun, and Ago Sunday. To prevent future attacks, Amotekun posts will be established in strategic locations as control points.

Regarding the arrest of suspected kidnappers, Adeleye disclosed that the 32 individuals were apprehended in forests across Akure South, Akure North, Ose, and Akoko North-East Local Government Areas. The operation was carried out through coordinated efforts between Amotekun and other security agencies.

“In recent times, there has been an increase in criminal activities, including kidnapping, in Ondo State. Our officers, with support from neighboring local governments, mobilized and raided the forests where these criminals were hiding. In the past week, we arrested 32 suspected kidnappers who are currently undergoing interrogation. In total, we are parading 58 suspects today,” he said.

He emphasized that all 32 suspects were tracked down and captured from forest reserves and other areas where kidnappings had been reported. Following the recent killings in Akure North, joint security patrols, including Amotekun operatives, have been deployed to maintain security in the affected areas.

Adeleye reassured residents that the government remains committed to ensuring peace and stability not just in Akure North but across the entire state.
