The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, has apprehended 45 suspected criminals in the state. The suspects, captured by the corps’ personnel across the 18 local government areas of the state, were presented at the corps’ headquarters in Akure, the state capital.
During the parade, the state Commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, stated that the suspects would face the full force of the law for their crimes, emphasizing that they had all been profiled.
Adeleye provided a breakdown of the suspects, which included 14 kidnappers, one dangerous driver, five burglars, two anti-grazing offenders, and five individuals arrested for theft and the purchase of stolen goods. He highlighted a particular case where the Amotekun Corps was able to dismantle a kidnap syndicate in Akoko LG, rescuing two kidnap victims in the process. The syndicate members were found in possession of a motorcycle supplied to them for their criminal activities.
In the process of apprehending the suspects, one of them, who had already confessed to the crime, was attacked by his accomplices in an attempt to silence him. However, Amotekun officers intervened, rushed the injured suspect to the hospital, and obtained valuable information from him.
The arrested kidnappers have confessed to several kidnapping activities in Akoko, Kogi, and Edo areas. The corps is still searching for their sponsor, who remains at large. Adeleye assured the public that there is no hiding place for criminals in Ondo State, reaffirming Amotekun’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents.
