Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Truck in Ogun State
A tragic road accident occurred at the Tollgate junction along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway late Monday, involving two cement-laden trucks and a tricycle, resulting in the death of a pedestrian and injuring two others.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident, stating that the accident involved two trucks, one unregistered SINO truck and a HOWO truck with the number plate GSW 180 XA, colliding with a tricycle with the number plate KLE 876 WZ.
The impact of the collision caused the tricycle to hit a pedestrian standing at the junction, leading to the pedestrian’s death and injuring two others. According to Akinbiyi, the HOWO truck, traveling from Sango, lost control due to excessive speed, colliding with the Sino truck before hitting the tricycle on the opposite side of the road, where the pedestrian was standing.
The deceased pedestrian’s body was taken to the Ifo General Hospital Morgue, while the injured were taken to the Ota General Hospital. Akinbiyi also mentioned that all vehicles involved in the accident were towed to the Sango Divisional Police Station, and one of the truck drivers escaped, while the other sustained serious injuries.
While commiserating with the victim’s family, Akinbiyi urged motorists to avoid excessive speeding, emphasizing the dangers associated with it.
