Portuguese Side FC Esmoriz Signs Five Players from Lagos Grassroots Club, Tonic FC
Lagos-based non-league side, Tonic Football Club, has announced that five of its players have secured professional contracts with Portuguese outfit FC Esmoriz.
Tonic FC, which was established just six months ago with FC Esmoriz as its parent club, recently competed in the Nigeria Nationwide League (NLO) championship where they narrowly missed out on promotion.
Speaking on the milestone, the General Overseer of Tonic FC, Prince Dapo Ajibade, said the club was created to discover and nurture young football talents from the grassroots.
“Tonic FC is a veritable football factory located in the vibrant Ikorodu community of Lagos State. This is just the beginning. We have many other young and gifted players who will soon break into the professional ranks,” Ajibade stated.
Among the five signees is towering goalkeeper Ayuba Oyetola, who stands at an impressive 6ft 9in. The players are expected to depart Nigeria in the coming weeks to begin their professional careers in Portugal.
