Qatar Reverses Decision, Agrees to Host Investment Forum During President Tinubu’s Visit

The State of Qatar has made a significant reversal in its decision regarding the hosting of a Business and Investment Forum proposed by the Federal Government of Nigeria during President Bola Tinubu’s planned visit to the Arab country on March 2 and 3, 2024. Initial reports had suggested that Qatar had declined to host the forum, leading to speculation and controversy surrounding the President’s visit.

However, Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga clarified that the earlier reports were false and the result of mischief makers. A leaked memo dated February 22, 2024, which purportedly showed Qatar’s refusal to host the forum, was debunked by Onanuga.

In a recent development, the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Abuja issued a Note Verbale confirming that the Business and Investment Forum will indeed take place on March 3, 2024, as proposed by the Nigerian side. The Qatar Chamber of Commerce will host the event, further strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

Alkasim Abdulkadir, spokesman for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, confirmed the clarification from the Embassy of Qatar, emphasizing the need to correct misinformation and misrepresentations in the media.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also confirmed President Tinubu’s State Visit to Qatar, scheduled for March 2 to 3, 2024, to enhance bilateral relations. Discussions will cover a wide range of economic and bilateral issues at the highest level.

President Tinubu will be accompanied by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar (OON), and other high-ranking government officials. The ministry stated it will not comment on leaked diplomatic correspondence circulating on social media.

This development underscores the importance of diplomatic engagements in strengthening international relations and fostering economic cooperation between nations. It also highlights the need for accurate reporting and verification of information in the media.
