Senator Accuses Senate of Padding 2024 Budget with N3 Trillion
Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, has raised serious concerns about the 2024 budget, alleging that the Senate padded it with approximately N3 trillion. In an interview with BBC Hausa, Senator Ningi claimed that the budget passed by the lawmakers differed significantly from the one being implemented, suggesting that significant padding had occurred.
He further alleged that the Federal Government was operating on a budget of N28 trillion, in contrast to the N25 trillion budget passed by the National Assembly. Senator Ningi expressed surprise at the discrepancies, stating that additional items were included in the budget without the knowledge of the lawmakers during the budget debate and consideration process.
These allegations by Senator Ningi highlight the need for transparency and accountability in the budgeting process. It is essential for all stakeholders to ensure that the budget reflects the needs and priorities of the country, and that any discrepancies are addressed promptly to prevent misuse of public funds.
