Suspect Confesses to Killing Childhood Friend, Stealing Bike, and Dumping Body in Pit

Akure—In a shocking revelation, a 39-year-old fruit trader, Babalola Dolapo, has confessed to killing his childhood friend, Evangelist Opeyemi Oyelakin, stealing his motorcycle, and dumping his body in a pit on Oke-Igbo Road in Oke-Igbo/Ile-Oluji Local Government Area of Ondo State. Dolapo, speaking to newsmen after being arrested by police detectives, said he sold the stolen motorcycle for N130,000 after the crime.

Dolapo admitted to committing the crime with one Sikiru Mutiu, who is currently on the run. He stated, “It is the work of the devil, I can’t explain because this person that we are talking about was my close friend. Truly, his bike is not the first bike I would steal but I have never killed before. Even those that are not related to me, I snatched the bike from them and did not harm them but this one is just a coincidence.”

The state police commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, expressed dismay that farm owners where the corpse was dumped failed to alert the police despite the stench in the area for days. Oladipo revealed that through technical intelligence, the suspect was arrested, and upon interrogation, he confessed to the crime. He explained that the suspect and his accomplice engaged the Okada rider (motorcycle rider) under false pretenses, then attacked him, resulting in his death.

Oladipo urged caution, especially for Okada riders, when taking passengers to far areas or isolated roads. He also emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious activities to the authorities promptly. The police are currently investigating the case to apprehend all other offenders involved in the crime.
