President Bola Tinubu has appointed principal officers for the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, Ogun State, and the Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, Kebbi State.
In a statement released by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu appointed Professor Fatiu Arogundade as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta. Other principal officers of the university include Dr. Obayomi Olukayode Gregory as the Registrar, Mrs. Adedokun Omolola Olufunso as the Bursar, and Dr. Idiat Odunola Agboola as the University Librarian.
Professor Arogundade, a distinguished professor of medicine at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, previously served as the Registrar of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Ijanikin. With over 33 years of experience in teaching, research, and administration, he has made significant contributions to medical research and academic reforms. He is also a Fellow of the International Society of Nephrology and has attracted substantial research grants between 2012 and 2023.
Dr. Gregory, the new Registrar, was the Deputy Registrar at the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja. Olufunso, a Chartered Accountant, previously held the position of Deputy Bursar at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, while Agboola, the newly appointed Librarian, was an Associate Professor of Library Science at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
President Tinubu urged the new university officers to provide visionary leadership and build a strong foundation for the university’s growth. He expressed confidence in their ability to leverage their expertise to ensure that the institution, which was established in 2023, produces world-class medical professionals.
Similarly, the President appointed Professor Sa’adu Umar as the Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, Kebbi State. Other appointments in the institution include Mr. Abdullahi Ahmed as Registrar, Dr. Muhammad Yusuf Alkali as Bursar, and Mrs. Maimuna Ahmed as Librarian.
Professor Umar, an expert in Agricultural Extension, previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) at Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero. Ahmed, the new Registrar, was the Deputy Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, while Dr. Alkali, the new Bursar, was formerly the Dean of the School of Accountancy and Finance at Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi. Mrs. Maimuna Ahmed, the newly appointed Librarian, was previously the College Librarian at the Niger State College of Nursing Sciences, Minna.
According to the Federal Colleges of Education Act, 2023, the tenure of the principal officers at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, Kebbi State, is set at five years without the possibility of extension.
The Federal College of Education (Technical), Yauri, was established by an Act of the National Assemblyand offers full-time courses in teaching, instruction, and training in technology, applied science, arts, social sciences, humanities, and management disciplines.
