Tragedy Strikes as Speeding Vehicle Claims Lives of Siblings in Ogun State
A devastating incident unfolded on the Imowo-Ibadan Road in the Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State, where two teenage pedestrians, suspected to be siblings, tragically lost their lives after being struck by a speeding vehicle. The harrowing event, which occurred around 8 a.m. on Monday, resulted in the immediate and untimely deaths of the young siblings.
Bolaji Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), revealed that the driver of the Honda car was recklessly speeding before losing control of the vehicle and colliding with the teenagers. The impact of the collision was fatal, leading to the tragic loss of the siblings’ lives.
The incident sparked a wave of anger and grief among local residents, particularly youths in the area, who reportedly attempted to attack the driver and set the vehicle ablaze in a fit of rage. Fortunately, the situation was swiftly brought under control by the timely intervention of TRACE officials, the Army, the police, and other emergency responders.
In the aftermath of the accident, the vehicle involved was towed to the Obalende Police Station, Ijebu-Ide, for further investigation. Meanwhile, the bodies of the two siblings have been respectfully deposited at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital mortuary.
Expressing profound sorrow and sympathy, TRACE, along with the Nigerian Army and the police, extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. They also reiterated the importance of road safety, urging drivers to avoid reckless speeding and reminding pedestrians to exercise caution while navigating the roads.
