
Tragic Auto Crash Claims 11 Lives in Kano
A devastating auto crash at Gaya junction along the Kano-Maiduguri road has claimed the lives of 11 people, leaving 16 others injured and one person rescued unhurt. The accident, which occurred between a Toyota Hummer bus with registration number KTG 190 XB and a Hijet mini pickup with registration number KTG 501 YG, resulted in a head-on collision and immediate ignition of the vehicles.
The Kano State FRSC Sector Commander, Ibrahim Sallau-Abdullahi, confirmed the incident, attributing it to speeding and loss of control. Despite swift response from rescue personnel, the accident took a heavy toll, with 11 fatalities and 16 people sustaining serious injuries. One person was fortunate to escape unharmed.
The injured victims were promptly taken to Gaya General Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased were respectfully laid to rest in a mass burial ceremony. The sector commander emphasized the need for strict adherence to road safety rules, urging drivers to avoid speeding and overloading vehicles.
He also encouraged commercial drivers to install speed limit devices on their vehicles to prevent similar tragedies. The FRSC reiterated its commitment to enforcing traffic regulations to enhance road safety and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
