It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Folakemi from Ede Local Government Area in Osun State, who suffered from goitre. Mrs. Folakemi’s story gained attention when she declined free medical services offered by a team of doctors and instead requested the sum of N300,000 for her treatment.
Despite efforts by a non-governmental organization (NGO) to raise the required funds, Mrs. Folakemi’s hopes for treatment were not realized. She returned to her village in Osun State, hoping for assistance from the state government, but unfortunately, no help came.
The NGO, which had raised the money for Mrs. Folakemi, shared that she later met a doctor in Osun State who agreed to perform the surgery but requested the N300,000 she had asked for. Tragically, the operation did not go as planned, and Mrs. Folakemi passed away.
Her story serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by individuals seeking healthcare in Nigeria and the importance of access to affordable and timely medical services. Our thoughts are with Mrs. Folakemi’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
