Five Suspects Arrested Over Sale of Two-Week-Old Baby in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five individuals in connection with the abduction and illegal sale of a two-week-old baby boy.

This was revealed in a statement released on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin. According to the statement, operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) apprehended the suspects after a detailed investigation.

The case was initially reported at the Ajah Police Division on May 5, 2025, by a man who expressed concern over the sudden disappearance of his 16-year-old cousin, Miss Happiness. The teenager, who had become pregnant by an unidentified person, was reportedly handed over to a woman identified as Nonye Osi due to financial hardship.

However, Osi allegedly conspired with others to relocate the girl to an undisclosed location. When she was eventually found, she was no longer pregnant, and the baby was missing.

The case was transferred to the SCID, where investigators uncovered a child trafficking ring and arrested five suspects: Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo. Police allege the group collaborated to sell the newborn for N3 million.

After extensive efforts, detectives tracked the baby to Agemuwo in the Badagry area of Lagos, where the child was rescued in good health.

“The baby boy, who is about two weeks old, was safely recovered. The Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit has taken over the case and is currently providing care for the baby, who is in stable condition pending reunification with his mother,” CSP Hundeyin stated.

He added that investigations are still ongoing to ensure all those involved face justice. The Command reaffirmed its dedication to protecting lives and maintaining safety across the state.

This incident is reminiscent of a 2024 case in Bauchi State, where a 39-year-old man, Yusuf Umar of Dagu village in Warji LGA, was arrested for attempting to sell his five-year-old daughter for N1.5 million.
