Ogun Court Sentences 22-Year-Old to Death by Hanging for Killing Alleged Sex Worker
An Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta has sentenced 22-year-old Jamiu Malomo to death by hanging for the murder of Asisat Akande, an alleged sex worker.
Court Verdict
Delivering the judgment, Justice O. Ogunfowora ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt, finding Malomo guilty as charged. The judge declared:
“You are hereby guilty of killing Asisat Akande as preferred against you. You will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy on you.”
Incident Details
During the trial, Deputy Director of Public Prosecution, Mr. A. M. Adebayo, revealed that Malomo committed the offence on July 18, 2021, at about 9:30 p.m. in Ori-Apata, Oke-Aregba, Abeokuta.
Malomo had reportedly hired Akande from 3AD Bar in Panseke for sexual services. After intercourse, Akande demanded ₦10,000, as agreed, but Malomo insisted he had only ₦8,000. The argument escalated, leading Malomo to stab her in the neck with a knife, causing her instant death.
Arrest and Legal Charges
Malomo was later arrested at 3AD Club in Panseke while attempting to hire another sex worker. His actions were found to violate Section 316 and are punishable under Section 319 of the Ogun State Criminal Code (2006).
