Ogun Police Investigate Assault of Female Student Over Alleged Boyfriend Snatching
The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into a disturbing case of assault involving a female student at the Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa. The incident, which sparked outrage after a video went viral on social media, shows a group of female students physically attacking their colleague over accusations of boyfriend snatching.
In the widely circulated footage, the victim is seen being viciously flogged with thick canes by a group of girls while others stood by filming the assault. Despite pleas from onlookers, the attackers continued the beating, leaving the victim with injuries on her head and back. One of the girls, identified only as Lolade, was heard justifying the assault, declaring it intentional and meant to serve as a warning.
Shocking claims were also made in the video, with the perpetrators alleging that their actions were backed by their mothers and that they were unconcerned about any disciplinary actions from the school or law enforcement.
Reacting to the video, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle that the case is being actively investigated. The Divisional Police Officer of Igbesa is reported to be handling the matter.
“The Ogun State Police Command is on top of the situation, and the DPO Igbesa has taken charge of the case,” the statement read.
As of the time of this report, the police have yet to confirm the identities of all individuals involved or whether any arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing, including efforts to question the suspects, interview witnesses, and obtain a statement from the victim.
The police emphasized that acts of jungle justice and public assault are criminal offences and will not be tolerated, promising that justice will be served in this case.
