Police Arrest Eight Secondary School Students for Alleged Cultism in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight secondary school students for alleged involvement in cult activities at Ifo High School, Ogun State.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to newsmen, explaining that on March 21, 2025, at about 12:05 p.m., the school’s Vice Principal, Mr. Alako Oluwole, and a teacher, Mr. Akinseku Oloruntoba Julius, reported that a group of students were engaging in cult-related activities, causing disturbances, and extorting valuables from fellow students.

Acting on the report, the Ifo Divisional Police Officer, in collaboration with the school authorities, apprehended the eight students suspected of belonging to a cult group identified as “Future Guys.” Investigations revealed that two senior students allegedly initiated them into the group.

Odutola stated that the police have launched a thorough investigation to assess the extent of cult activities in the school and prevent further occurrences. The arrested students will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further questioning and legal processes.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed that the students be brought before him on the next working day for further interviews, during which counseling and mentoring sessions will be arranged as part of efforts to curb cultism among youths. He also reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to maintaining law and order while urging parents, teachers, and community leaders to work together to eliminate cultism from schools.
