
Police Arrest Two for Vandalising IBEDC Equipment, Launch Investigation into Ogun Robbery
The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two suspects, Agbo Jeremiah (34) and Sunday Ngbuta (29), for allegedly conspiring to vandalise installation wires and iron belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) in the Ogunmakin area.
According to reports, the suspects were initially spotted by operatives from the Safer Highway unit near Macpherson University on January 20, around 7:00 p.m. They were carrying rolls of cable wires and iron rods and had requested assistance, which raised suspicions. The driver assisting them alerted police officers stationed at the Ogunmakin overhead bridge, leading to their arrest.
Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, stated that photographs of the recovered materials were taken, but the suspects failed to provide a reasonable explanation for possessing them. The police are currently interrogating them as investigations continue.
NSCDC Apprehends KEDCO Staff for Alleged Prepaid Meter Theft in Katsina
In a separate incident, the Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a staff member of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) for allegedly stealing a prepaid electricity meter.
Speaking to journalists, NSCDC spokesperson SC Buhari Hamisu revealed that the 38-year-old suspect, who works at KEDCO’s Daura Regional Office, was accused of trespassing, meter tampering, and theft. His arrest followed a complaint by Alhaji Lawal Gadi of Tundun Wada Quarters, Daura, who reported that his prepaid meter had been unlawfully removed.
The stolen meter was recovered from the suspect and will serve as evidence in court. Hamisu reassured residents that security forces remain committed to tackling acts of vandalism and economic sabotage. Meanwhile, KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Sani Bala-Sani, stated that he was unaware of the incident but pledged to investigate.
Ogun Police Probe Armed Robbery Attack in Imeko
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into a reported armed robbery that occurred in the Imeko area on January 21.
According to CSP Odutola, a man identified as Aliu was attacked by unknown gunmen at about 9:40 a.m. near Idufe village. The assailants inflicted multiple cutlass wounds on him and stole a motorcycle he had borrowed.
A resident, Kugbukin Kolawole, reported that Aliu had borrowed the motorcycle the night before to visit his family in Iwoye. Shortly after Aliu left, gunshots were heard, and a neighbor later found him severely injured. He was quickly rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The police have collected the motorcycle’s documents as part of their ongoing investigation and are working to track down the perpetrators. Security agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring safety and preventing further criminal activities in Ogun and Katsina states.
