Dangote Industries Disowns Truck Involved in Enugu Fatal Crash
Enugu – Dangote Industries Limited has disassociated itself from a truck involved in a fatal road accident in Enugu on Wednesday, insisting that the vehicle does not belong to its fleet.
The crash, which happened around 9 a.m., involved a Howo truck loaded with cement and a Toyota Corolla. The truck bore the inscription of Visco Investment Global Limited and was reportedly traveling from Aba to Abuja when the incident occurred.
Following the accident, online reports suggested that the truck was owned by Dangote Group due to its familiar brand markings. However, in a statement issued by the company’s management, Dangote refuted the claims, clarifying that the truck was operated by a third party.
“We are working with the relevant authorities to understand why the truck was carrying our logo when it does not form part of our fleet. Moving forward, we will intensify checks against the unauthorised use of our brand identity,” the statement read.
Concern Over Brand Misuse
Dangote explained that although the company rarely comments on individual incidents, it was compelled to respond because of the widespread misinformation.
“Ordinarily, it is our policy not to comment on isolated cases. However, the false claims linking this accident to Dangote Group without proof made it necessary to set the record straight. We urge the media and public to desist from spreading unverified reports,” the company stressed.
The statement added that Dangote Industries remains committed to cooperating fully with investigators while condemning attempts to exploit tragedies for personal or financial gain.
Previous Accidents Stir Public Outcry
This latest clarification comes amid rising public concern over recurring accidents involving Dangote-branded trucks across the country.
In one recent case, Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Ijeoma “Phyna” Otabor, died days after undergoing a leg amputation caused by an accident involving a truck reportedly linked to the conglomerate near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
Her family, represented by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, confirmed that she passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, while they were still seeking justice and compensation. The accident had taken place on August 13, barely a week after she graduated from the institution.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the truck crushed her leg before being stopped by a courageous bystander.
The incident, like many others in the past, has intensified calls for stricter regulation of heavy-duty trucks associated with Dangote Group, as Nigerians continue to demand greater accountability for reckless driving and road safety nationwide.
